Yesterday would have been my mother's birthday. She passed away in 2009. I loved my mom, even though our relationship could be contentious, and that the diseases that engulfed her spirit changed her into a person that could be very difficult and trying. I realize now that the way she was in the end was not who she had always been. She was a creative, odd soul, "weird" in a way only mothers can be, and though I was resistant at times--mothers and sons can be that way--I now see so much of her in me. I really don't want to talk about this any more.
I painted this yesterday. It was on my mind. I was inspired, to some extent, by the following song:
